《飘》中生于乱世，精明能干，从不认输的思嘉丽为何败给了爱情？
以我的观点来看，斯嘉丽并没有“败给爱情”。
这个题目的题眼有两个，一是何谓“败”，二是何谓“爱情”。
在我看来，无论是“败”还是“爱情”，都需要当事人内心的认可才作数，旁人的评价不能代替当事人的真实感受。什么是“败”比较好说，大概就是失去吧，包括物质和精神的损失。什么是“爱情”看似复杂一点，但也有比较简单的判断方式，就是当事人内心有没有产生那种巨大的情感动荡。
拿这样的标准来看，正如题主自己说的，斯嘉丽“从不认输”，我也不觉得她有什么地方“败”了，她不承认的失败能叫失败吗？爱情也一样，总得她承认的才算是吧？
具体说明一下我认为斯嘉丽没有“败给爱情”的几种解释：
1.斯嘉丽大半生里自以为的“爱情”对象是艾希礼，艾希礼没有给她所希望的回应，也许这对她来说算是挫败。但其实她并没有什么实质损失，相反，跟艾希礼和媚兰一家的相处，反而对她的人生历练很有帮助。
斯嘉丽非常骄傲，唯一无法“征服”的是艾希礼的心，或许这真的会让她有失败感。但这种失败感毕竟很轻微，因为艾希礼是绅士，从来也没有真的用刻薄的语言或冷漠的举动刺激斯嘉丽。相反，他让斯嘉丽进入他的生活圈，让斯嘉丽和自己的太太友好相处，共同抵御乱世的动荡。他虽然不能在感情上回应斯嘉丽，但是他自己连带他的整个家庭都对斯嘉丽很友善，发自内心地容忍和接纳斯嘉丽这个脾气跋扈的朋友。说到底，艾希礼并没有带给斯嘉丽真正的精神重创，那斯嘉丽在他面前算什么失败？
诚然，在媚兰的要求下，斯嘉丽不得不和艾希礼一家捆绑了一段时间，表面上似乎有些小损失，因为要从自己的事务中匀出些时间和精力来帮助他们，但这不也是斯嘉丽内心所乐意的么？而且媚兰是把她当成真心可以信任的朋友，才把家人托付给她的。在完成媚兰这份托付的过程中，其实斯嘉丽也有不少精神上的成长。
总之，斯嘉丽对艾希礼只是一份执念，艾希礼可没有伤害她什么。相反，有艾希礼和媚兰这样的朋友，也算斯嘉丽的造化。横看竖看，都不能说斯嘉丽在什么方面“败”给了她对艾希礼的“爱情”。
2.斯嘉丽对白瑞德真的有爱，但是前期她沉溺在自己对艾希礼的执念中，无法认识到自己真正的感情，这算是一种遗憾。可是至少在邦尼出事以前，她对自己感情的视而不见并没有给自己带来什么损失。白瑞德是真心爱她，而且宠溺她，一直耐心地等待她的成长。在这段时间，斯嘉丽和白瑞德感情的错位并不妨碍她享受白瑞德带给她的幸福。
甚至可以说，这段时间的斯嘉丽很幸运。白瑞德有情又有金，还不计较她的幼稚和霸道，总是在她陷入低谷的时候及时施以援手，无论是在物质还是精神方面都大力支持她。斯嘉丽不但没有失败，相反还可以说赚了。如果不是她自己任性拒绝成长，她本来可以沿着这条路径顺风顺水走下去，收获一个没有失败只有幸福满满的人生。
3.后期白瑞德离开了斯嘉丽，而斯嘉丽这时才幡然悔悟，意识到自己真正爱的是白瑞德，无奈白瑞德去意已决，斯嘉丽仿佛一夜间失去所有：丈夫、女儿、曾经的爱和家庭。这时候的她，似乎真的是败了。但即使如此，原因也不能归结为“败给爱情”。
因为斯嘉丽是在白瑞德离开的时候才认识到自己的爱的，那严格来说，这一次她承认的“爱情”才刚刚开始。但对手白瑞德已经离开，俩人之间并未产生因为“爱情”而导致的“战争”，那谈何胜负输赢？
而且，这时的斯嘉丽失去了什么？可爱的女儿、美满的家庭、刚刚承认就已离开的爱人，这个打击确实很大，但对于性格倔强的斯嘉丽来说，依然没有大到击败她的地步。看看她面对这一切的反应就知道了，这对她而言不是一个失败的结局，而是一个重新奋斗的开始。她依然有土地，有庄园，有东山再起的资源，物质上她并未失去什么。精神上呢，她才刚刚意识到自己的所爱是谁呢，换句话说，她才刚刚对自己有了全新的认识呢，这难道不是一个重新出发的动力吗？
斯嘉丽的优点，是永不言败、锲而不舍的精神，是一股熊熊燃烧的生命力。白瑞德欣赏的就是她这点。只要她没有失去这种特质，她的人生就谈不上失败。就算中途有小挫败，那也是败给斯嘉丽自己的任性和不成熟，而不是“爱情”。斯嘉丽是个大气的女人，像她这样的女性一定会很强势，人生的追求一定会很广阔，而不仅仅是“爱情”。
